Bio:
Karl Maier
Karl Maier obsesses over three things: patterns, puzzles and pencils. In his work, he combines all three into pictures that break down time and space to reveal the geometric and random patterns that lie within what at first glance seems so simple and undemanding.
Whether a reflection on reality, or an adventure through the imagination; Karl’s work is marked by a curious balance of innocence and wit, a biting humour, and a bold use of layers, shape and colour. Seamlessly floating across the common, the commercial, and the cultural, Karl’s work spans illustration, installations, typography, editorial and textile design.
As a founding member of the renown collective Rinzen, Karl has had two books published, his work has been exhibited in the Louvre as well as in galleries from Tokyo to Barcelona, his clients have included Nike, Apple, Microsoft, VH1, MTV, Mambo, Fujifilm and Vodafone. Karl is also co-creator and editorial art-director of the influential counterculture chronicle The Pop Manifesto.
